New e-learning module on patient-ventilator asynchrony

Patient-ventilator asynchrony is the subject of one of two new e-learning modules available at Hamilton Medical College.

The issue of patient-ventilator asynchrony is attracting increasing attention as we become more aware of the negative impact on patient outcomes. In our new e-learning module, you will learn about the basics of asynchrony, including causes and types of asynchrony, the clinical manifestation and diagnosis, and the consequences. We also look briefly at treatment and initial settings in spontaneously breathing patients.

The second new module explains the two technical features on Hamilton Medical ventilators designed to safeguard patients in the case of apnea, the apnea alarm and backup ventilation. We explain how the ventilator detects apnea, how the alarm behaves and how backup ventilation works.
