The patient is being ventilated in volume assist control mode. What does the change of shape of the pressure curve represent?

Answer: Flow starvation. The visible decrease in inspiratory pressure means the ventilator is not providing the patient with sufficient support and hence adequate flow. The patient makes an inspiratory effort, which distorts the pressure curve.
