Assessing lung recruitability and setting PEEP using the P/V Tool Pro®

In acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) patients, a recruitment strategy combines recruitment maneuvers (RMs) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) to prevent atelectrauma.

However the percentage of potentially recruitable lung varies widely among ARDS patients, and knowing how much of the lung is recruitable may be important for establishing the therapeutic efficacy of PEEP in each patient.  

The P/V Tool Pro represents a simple bedside method of determining how much of the lung is potentially recruitable, and carrying out recruitment maneuvers in ARDS patients. The white paper available for download below explains how to assess recruitability, perform a titrating recruitment maneuver and subsequently set PEEP to the optimal value.
