Advancing sustainability: Transition to electronic instructions for use (eIFU)

At Hamilton Medical, sustainability is more than a goal - it’s a journey we actively shape every day. By rethinking even the smallest details, we create meaningful impact. One of these steps is our transition from printed instructions for use (IFU) to electronic IFUs (eIFU) for flow sensors and expiratory valves.

From printed to electronic

This transformation is already underway for all expiratory valves and flow sensors, with additional consumables to follow later this year. It reflects our ambition to continuously reduce our environmental footprint while delivering the same high standards of quality, safety, and accessibility our customers rely on.

With eIFU, information becomes smarter, faster, and always up to date. All documents are available in our Resource Center and can be accessed at any time. Each affected product includes a multilingual eIFU insert with a QR code and web address, directing users to the Resource Center for quick access to the correct documentation by entering the REF. And when needed, printed versions remain available free of charge, ensuring flexibility without compromise.

Sustainability impact

Going digital is a small change with a powerful effect. By replacing printed IFUs with electronic documentation, we reduce emissions by more than 20,900 kg CO₂-equivalent and save approximately 10,738 kg of paper every year.

Every digital document is a step toward conserving resources, reducing waste, and building a more sustainable healthcare system, without sacrificing usability or compliance.

This initiative marks another milestone in our commitment to combining high-quality respiratory care with responsible resource management.
